About Business mathematics and logical Reasoning and Statistics

Business Mathematics and Logical Reasoning and Statistics popularly referred as Quantitative aptitude (Quant) is all about understanding number patterns, computations and quantitative relationshipsQuant or quantitative aptitude covers three areas: Business mathematics (mathematics relevant for commerce operations) & statistics (to analysis historical data) and Logical reasoning to develop structural thinking.

The CA profession provides career opportunities in various areas such as accounting, finance, auditing, taxation, etc. All these core subjects require fundamental understanding of quantitative aptitude, i.e., mathematics and statistics. These quant topics are not at an advanced level but at basic level which you would have already studied at school and colleges So, this paper helps CA students to get mathematically and logically (Quant) well equipped before they move towards next level of this course where more analytical capability will be required.

Business Mathematics and Logical Reasoning & Statistics is one paper of 100 marks divided into
  1. Business Mathematics – 40 Marks
  2. Logical reasoning – 20 Marks
  3. Statistics – 40 Marks
  4. Business Mathematics – Ratio and Proportion, Indices, Logarithms, Equations and Matrices, Linear Inequalities, Time Value of Money, Permutations and Combinations, Arithmetic and Geometric Progressions, Sets, Functions and Relations, Calculus.
  5. Logical Reasoning – Number Series, Coding and Decoding and Odd Man Out, Direction Tests, Seating Arrangements, Blood Relations, Syllogism
  6. Statistics – Statistical Description of Data, Measures of Central Tendency and Dispersion, Probability, Theoretical Distributions, Correlation And Regression, Index Number and Time Series

The best approach to study Mathematics and Logical Reasoning & Statistics is,
  • The questions asked are of objective type, therefore solve all the model Questions and Questions given in ICAI study material
  • If you find difficulty in arriving at the answer through traditional steps, try deriving the answer to the question from the given options to save time
  • Make use of calculator wisely; try learning shortcuts
  • Learn all the concepts now itself; there are many areas where you will be required to apply these basics at CA Inter and more in CA Final level
  • Try finding shortcuts to solve since steps are not required to be shown in exam. As much as possible, try to arrive at the answer in calculator itself without noting it down anywhere
  • You can use mock exam Question papers published by ICAI just before exams. It should available in ICAI.org website without any cost
